Internationally renowned, award-winning photographer, Fred Pompermayer has for more than two decades been dedicated to shooting Big Wave Surfing and Adventure sports. He is based in Los Angeles which allows him easy access for last-minute travel to all parts of the globe.
Fred’s photos have appeared in hundreds of publications worldwide, landing on the cover of some of the world’s most prestigious surfing magazines, gallery, websites, advertisements, billboards and books.
Nominated for several photographic awards, Fred won the XXL Big Wave Awards capturing the best photos – Biggest Paddle Award in 2009 & 2010 & 2015 & 2017. the Biggest Tube Award in 2013, Biggest Biggest Female Paddle 2019 and the Biggest Wave Award in 2023.
Fred photos set new Guinness Book of World Record with his photo featured as the Biggest Wave of the Year in 2010 and 2019.
With a degree in architecture, Fred made a career decision early on to pursue his love of surfing and photography instead of sitting at a desk. Fred takes a hands-on approach: customizing and building water housings for his cameras and flashes; and innovating with new technologies to bring his vision alive. He works with companies such as PocketWizard, Suunto and DJ
Always seeking unique and exciting challenges, Fred has expanded his creativity to Outdoor Adventure Sports such as rock climbing and mountain biking.
